Value Added Sessions

Value added sessions are implemented, along with the Computer Bus Programme, as additional activities. This programme is introduced for motivating students towards learning, besides enhancing creative development and application, in addition to team work. A ‘theme of the month’ is selected, based on which activities are planned, wherein student participation is of paramount importance

“You know where my attendance stands: at 93 percent! And, I am proud of it,” says Rajib Sharma, a student of class VII from Makum, Tinsukia, who considers the Value Added Programmes, conducted under the OIL-Dikhya project, as very important. What is, actually, meant by ‘value added programmes’? “Oh, you don’t know?! Through fun-filled activities, we learn about a wide range of topics like sanitation, the environment, cleanliness, clay craft, and so much more! Our teachers are just the best. We are explained about the theme of each month before beginning an activity, which helps us attune, and understand its importance in life,” adds Rajib with a smile. Young Rajib does not forget to thank OIL, for the happiness rendered, in so many different ways, through interventions in the field of education Learning through games is a very important activity, which not only enhances knowledge, but it also provides moments of fun, which help the students in refreshing their energy. The sessions then include a number of physical and mental games through, which they learn about diverse subjects

Monmayuri Konwar, who is a class VII student of Konwarigaon High School, Dibrugarh, Assam likes participating in extra-curricular activities held in her school from time to time. “I feel it is important to be an all-rounder; one should try and strike a balance between academics and non-academics, as both are important,” says Monmayuri. One could not agree more with her. No wonder she takes active participation in extra-curricular activities, as much as she does in studies What is her take on the Value Added Programme? “As the name suggests, this project lives up to its name. You see, I will explain with a simple example: for our environment, tea plantation is an important activity, the nuances of which we, actually, understood from the Value Added Programme. It has also helped me in nurturing my inner talent, making me feel more confident and competitive. We learnt about paper craft, reading skills, healthy diet and living, and other such relevant topics. And, the learning does not stop at me; I spread the good word around, beginning with my brother,” says Monmayuri with a laugh Parents of the students are happy too as they have noticed changes in the behaviours of students; from improvement in reading, self-study, organizing the school bag, to cleanliness, better behaviour with siblings, respect to elders, and many more such positive traits
