Freedom to Learn: Schoolnet’s Vision for India
Schoolnet Vision When India unfurled its tricolour on that August morning in 1947, the dream was not just of political freedom, but of a nation where every citizen could stand tall, educated, capable, and free to shape their destiny. Seventy-seven years later, we have built cities from dust, sent missions to the moon, and produced leaders in every field, from medicine to technology. Yet, amid these triumphs, a question continues to guide us: Has every Indian truly enjoyed the freedom to learn? The Freedom We Have Won, and the Freedom We Continue to Pursue Since independence, India’s literacy rate has soared from a mere 18% to over 77%. Millions more children are in school, young women are entering classrooms their grandmothers never knew, and higher education institutions have multiplied.
