IL&FS Education launched the English Relay Program (ERP) on 4th Aug 2011 in Kamrup district, Assam. The program was launched by Smt. L. S. Chnagsan IAS Mission Director, Axom Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission, government of Assam.
This programme is being delivered in class-wise mode across blocks of Kamrup district; namely, Guwahati, Dimoria, Rani, Rampur, Chhaygaon, Rangia, Karara and Kamalpur. The programme aims to improve English teaching skills in teachers and training for more than 200 teachers has been completed already.
ERP also aim to make children English literate and help them acquire basic English proficiency level, as desired by National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
So far baseline tests have been conducted in approximately 10% of the project schools for all classes. To make this programme more productive, a needs assessment was also done among a sample group of children and teachers from some of the project schools. The findings from the assessment helped contextualize the training and enrich learning of teachers.
This intervention will impact the lives of 200 teachers and more than 14,000 children studying in primary classes.
